About Us

Emerging Leaders is an award-winning, year-long freshmen leadership program established to develop the skills necessary to excel in the classroom, in campus organizations, and in the workplace. The goal of the program is to create a new class of leaders at Georgia Tech.

Program Experiences:

The program kicks-off with a weekend retreat at Camp Cherokee where a series of activities and challenges transform participants from strangers into close friends and teammates, while laying a groundwork for future leadership development. After the retreat, the Emerging Leaders meet weekly during the fall and spring semesters for workshops, guest speakers, special topics seminars, and continued team building. At the start of the spring semester, participants take part in a one-day retreat designed to help them overcome individual challenges and prepare them to serve as group leaders. In addition, the Emerging Leaders will design and execute two campus-wide events in order to utilize newly developed leadership skills, facilitate teamwork, and gain experience in running successful campus programs and events.

Program Benefits:

Leadership skills are invaluable both on campus and in the future workplace. Getting a head start on developing fundamental skills such as conflict mediation, event planning, public speaking, and meeting management will prepare you for future leadership roles and positions. In the meetings, you will not only have the opportunity to strengthen and expand on your own skill set, but also to interact and network with both current and future campus leaders. In addition to your fellow freshmen, you will also work with a group of dedicated upper-class advisors who are always willing to discuss their leadership experiences and give advice on getting involved at Tech.

Graduates of the program have become leaders in fraternities and sororities, student government representatives, FASET leaders and organizers, and have established positions in many other prominent organizations, including some founded by Emerging Leaders Graduates themselves. Graduates have also received jobs as teaching and research assistants, professional interns, and co-op employees in large corporations such as General Electric and NASA.
